St. Andrew's School is an elementary private School that was
founded in 1963 by Agnes N. Nery, (first headmistress), Margaret
Towers, Sylvia Towers and Fay Crocker. It provides a British
type of education through eight grades, preparing students for
entry into secondary schools in Uruguay or any schools abroad,
whose language of instruction is English.
Students
are also prepared in Spanish studies according to the Uruguayan
Educational Authorities' requirements. St Andrew's School is a
founding member of AIDEP (Asociación de Institutos de
Educación Privada)
The School has approximately 370 pupils and has a Nursery
Department for the 3 & 4 year olds. Children start their
formal education at the age of 5, and complete the primary cycle
when they are 12 and have finished Form VI. The overall ratio of
teachers and other professional staff to students is an average
of 1:8, making it possible to care for individual needs which is
one of the main characteristics of the School.
